The “Homo Faber” knives exhibition was sponsored by the town of Maniago and its Consorzio Coltellinai (society of knife manufacturers); Maniago is a town in northeastern Italy, known for its centenarian tradition of manufacturing knives and sharp weapons, which dates back to 1450 when the town began providing the army and the navy of the maritime republic of Venice.
At that time the water that copiously supplied the town of Maniago constituted the main motive power to move the trip hammers used for the iron carving.
This exhibition, set up inside the historical palace of the Attimis-Maniago counts, chronicles the techniques and the process systems used for several centuries for the manufacturing of weapons and tools made of iron.
